In order to improve both the form and function of Empire Tower, the design focused on the following areas: traffic flow, main drop-off area, atrium and skylight, main entrance lobby, event hall and façade design.

One of the advantages of the site was its relatively long frontage of 150 meters. However, the building volume lacked continuity. One of the priorities was, therefore, to unify the existing parts of the building by creating visual connections between the various sections of the building base, as well as visually connecting the base to the tower. This was achieved through vertical fins and curved lines creating dynamic forms. Lighting schemes also complement one another, both night and day. A sense of liveliness was thus injected into the once static building façade.

The first four stories were converted into a retail mall which connects to the large open plaza of the mass transit rail system (BTS), providing a large event space and adding a vibrant atmosphere to the complex. The design language of the building base was extended to the plaza, with a suspended canopy hovering over the junction.

Modifications were also made to the interior to complement the existing design and integrate the new outdoor areas, creating more open and comfortable spaces.

The synthesis of the overall project is achieved by establishing spatial and atmospheric continuity between the interior and exterior through all the different building components, including architecture, interior design, lighting design and way-finding system.
